Finding healing and salvation in "the maximum of good"

From the November 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the joys of Christian Science is discovering the deeper meanings, powers, and practicalities of spiritual ideas. One such idea with unlimited healing potential is the great truth that God and His infinite expression constitute the totality of being and doing. As Mrs. Eddy puts it, "The maximum of good is the infinite God and His idea, the All-in-all." Science and Health, p. 103.

This revolutionary truth, which so transcends the mundane, material sense of things, is indicated in many of Christ Jesus' sayings. Defining the relationship of Christ, the ideal man, to God, he said: "I and my Father are one" John 10:30. and "I am in the Father, and the Father in me." John 14:11. When praying for his followers throughout all time, he prayed "that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee" and "that they may be made perfect in one." John 17:21,23.

This unity of God and man, including the universe—this oneness yet distinctness of cause and effect—is foundational to the divine metaphysics revealed to Mrs. Eddy and practiced by Christ Jesus. In Science and Health, her book elucidating and explaining the Christ Science, she gives what she terms "the scientific statement of being." In it she states the following revolutionary thought: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Science and Health, p. 468.
