Church work is teamwork

From the November 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Whenever and wherever people get together to pursue a common aim, they have to work as a team if they are going to attain their goal. Individuals working together in harmony can achieve a great deal. They can, for example, run a business, raise a happy family, put people on the moon, or form and run a church.

A successful and progressive branch Church of Christ, Scientist, a Christian Science Society, or a group of Christian Scientists beginning to hold services is a team all of whose members work with each other to demonstrate the spirituality that results in harmony. Whether one is the First Reader, a member of the executive board, a Sunday School teacher, or an usher, he is a needed member of the team.

The team has an important goal, which is stated in the "Historical Sketch" of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy: "At a meeting of the Christian Scientist Association, April 12, 1879, on motion of Mrs. Eddy, it was voted,—To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Man., p. 17.
