My entire life has been blessed by a love and appreciation of Christian Science. My mother embraced Science, as had her mother before her. However, the time came when I had to get a clearer understanding of this wonderful teaching and learn how to apply it myself. For many instances of God's loving care and protection I am unspeakably grateful.
One experience stands out as a beacon, for it has encouraged me to press on and surmount other problems. One Sunday afternoon my younger sister, who was then living with us, was severely burned when a tightly covered kettle of boiling water suddenly exploded in her face. My sister was a student of Christian Science too, so it was natural for us to call a Christian Science practitioner to pray for her. I then turned trustingly to God in prayer.
The next morning my sister's appearance was quite alarming. But I found considerable help in this counsel from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 261): "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."
