I was raised in Christian Science. This was an anchor that kept me from going too far astray through the years when I drifted in and out of church—not understanding at all the spiritual commitment required to be a Christian Scientist. Even though a Christian Science way of life is all you may have know, the time comes sooner or later when you have to make it your own.
After I married a fine man, who is not a Christian Scientist, I continued to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and our first child attended the Christian Science Sunday School. We were relatively free of physical problems. It wasn't until after our second child was born that I had to make a decision as to what path I wanted to follow.
Through my own choice I had slipped into the routine of having medical checkups for the children for a short time after their births. I did this out of what I thought was consideration for the beliefs of my husband. It was easy. The pediatrician's findings were always normal. I didn't expect them to be otherwise, and I was content to go along this way.
