As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have always turned to God for healing. I was healed of smoking and of painful inflammation in my arms through coming to know that God is "a very present help in trouble." The following healing provided me with great spiritual growth.
About three years ago I began to experience chronic fear, nausea, lightheadedness, and pain in my lower back. I prayed to see that man expresses freedom, joy, and action because of his true nature as the spiritual reflection of God, not because of some material condition or circumstances. Many citations from the Bible were helpful, such as "I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people" (Jer. 31:33). I saw that the law of God had already established my true selfhood. Spiritual law does not stop and start. It is ruling eternally; therefore, man is governed by God's law every day, every hour.
I diligently studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, especially the following passage (p. 151): "Fear never stopped being and its action. The blood, heart, lungs, brain, etc., have nothing to do with Life, God. Every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind."
