In the early years of my career as a ballet dancer, I frequently suffered from occupational illnesses and the fear of them. Despite medical treatments, they kept recurring. After I received a grant to spend several semesters at a renowned ballet school in a neighboring country, these complications reached their climax, and I dropped out of the school. Without any financial means, in a foreign country, without any hope for successfully continuing my professional career, I found myself in a rather desperate situation.
In this distress I turned to some people I had met shortly before. With great understanding they recognized my true need for a better and higher way of life. Lovingly they introduced me to Christian Science. I grasped at this opportunity to save myself. From that time on, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy became my support and guide. Through my in-depth study of Christian Science a fundamental sense of inward and outward order developed, which caused me to start seeing everything through different eyes.
One day as I was studying the Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, my attention was totally engrossed by the following Bible verse (Ex. 23:20): "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." I accepted this promise of God's presence, help, and guidance as meant for me. Great inspiration guided my thinking and actions from that point on.
