"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: . . . who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies" (Ps. 103:2, 4). These words express the gratitude I feel for Christian Science.
In 1980 the firm for which I worked ceased doing business. For some time prior to this, a great deal of unrest and change at management level had been occurring, and it had become evident that changes in the business were probable
As students of Christian Science, my wife and I had become accustomed to turning to God in prayer; and at the time of the unrest we had asked a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help with the situation. The amount of love and kindness expressed by the practitioner was tremendous, and she remained a strong support. We were grateful for this, because when the company did close we were better equipped to deal prayerfully with the situation. Even so, I was very fearful as to how we were going to manage financially, because both my wife and I had worked all our adult lives, and my wage had been the bigger of the two. Also, I was at an age when it seemed it would be difficult to obtain another job.
