The spirit that brings healing

From the September 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We witness many things in life. Some are so packed with lessons that they go beyond what can be put into a few words. Most of us would agree that the birth of a child, for example, is one such experience. But, for me, the night our son was born brought an added, unexpected lesson. I fell down several concrete steps while clearing snow away in preparation for a doctor's arrival to attend the birth. Through prayer I was quickly healed, and the experience did much to help me see that we are not outside of God's care—a strong lesson for any new parent.

I remember well a Sunday School student who was seriously injured while riding his bicycle. An important part of the healing process had to do with the family being drawn closer together and the added tenderness that developed among them.

Yet we also witness other events that aren't resolved so quickly and that may claim to undermine our faith in the power of God. There is a vast panorama to human life.
