A conversation about church and practice

From the September 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

So your church doesn't have a Christian Science practitioner? I don't believe it! Why, it has you, doesn't it? Ah, you say you're not a practitioner. I wouldn't be so quick to accept that and neither should you. You might be more of a practitioner than you realize.

Listen to what Mrs. Eddy has to say: "I recommend that each member of this Church shall strive to demonstrate by his or her practice, that Christian Science heals the sick quickly and wholly, thus proving this Science to be all that we claim for it." Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XXX, Sea. 7

"By his or her practice"! Actually, then, anyone who studies the teachings of Christian Science as revealed in the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings and applies them is practicing Christian Science. So you are a "practitioner" of, or one who practices, Christian Science—and so are other members of your church. Therefore, your church does in fact have a practitioner—even a number of them!
