Testimonies of Healing

"For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish...

From the January 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" (Titus).

When I recall how miserable my life was before I found Christian Science, these words from the Bible greatly encourage me and strengthen me to continue my path in the way of truth. At a former time, my life was in a shambles. Alcohol and drugs were very much abused; and sin, disease, sinister motives, and hateful behavior caused constant misery.

One day during this time, because of a hard pain in my side, I went to a doctor, who told me, after an examination, that I had a large cyst. He explained that, if I wanted to live, I must submit to an operation in two weeks' time. Just prior to this a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy had been given to me, which I had been reading casually, as if I were reading a novel. I continued to read the book. When I returned to the doctor for the scheduled operation, he announced to me, after another examination, that the cyst had dissolved. At that moment I had no idea that I had been healed by Christian Science.
