There is no way to write down all of the varied benefits that have come to me through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science. But I do wish to express my gratitude for a few of the healings I've had through relying on spiritual means alone.
At one time, when I was a new student of Christian Science, I woke one night feeling very ill with flu symptoms. I got up, but it was very difficult to stay on my feet. As I sat, leaning against a wall for support, the phrase "as adherents of Truth" kept coming to me. I recognized it as the opening phrase of the first tenet of Christian Science, which I had read earlier that day. (The tenet, which can be found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, states, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.") I sat there, thinking that when we stick to Truth as closely as a piece of adhesive tape sticks to something, then there just isn't any room for anything to come between us and God. As I reasoned with the thought that man can't be separated from God, all evidence of the flu left me. In about twenty minutes I was free.
For several years I remained free of this illness, but then one morning I became quite ill with flu symptoms. With the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner, I was able to go to my job and be on my feet all day, feeling better and better as the day progressed. By evening I was healed and easily prepared a meal for guests. That was about twenty years ago, and I have had no such symptoms since.
