Poems

Like Nehemiah

From the August 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Nehemiah wept
For the affliction of Jerusalem.
Even as I
In my afflictions mourn.

But through the tears
I remember
Nehemiah's instruction from the Lord—

"Turn unto me...
keep my commandments,
and do them."

Time now to search my heart,
Find the way to keep His word.

When I am ready to prove my task (demonstration)
I go shielded through the night of error
Enfolded, safe, infinitely secure.

His plan for me is complete
Mine to prove—to do.

Upon my wall I'll stay
Watching for intruders night and day.

The work will not cease—
All fear is gone
When I turn to Him,
keep His commandments,
and do them.
