In these few words in the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy says volumes about what it means to be a member of The Mother Church.Man., Art. VI, Sect. 2. They ask each of us: "Am I living the life of a genuine Christian? Am I a faithful, loyal student of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures?"
As Christians we are born again, and baptized daily, as we discover and demonstrate who we really are—the spiritual expression of God, divine Love. But no one is actually born a Christian. Christianity, at its roots, isn't a culture to be born into or a human creed to be converted to. Being a Christian means following, as fully as possible, the example Christ Jesus set for every disciple. Our lives, more than our voices, say, "He is risen!"
Jesus' first followers were called disciples because they were learners, people who hungered to understand the God whom Jesus called Father. They weren't schooled in doctrine and dogma. To Christ Jesus, learning wasn't an end in itself but an empowering means for doing good. His students were learning how to pray, how to love one another, how to heal, how to save and be saved from sin.
