Dear Reader

From the March 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This issue of the Journal offers some Christianly scientific perspective on issues of special concern to many people right now—particularly the world's deep-rooted economic problems, which cause unemployment, poverty, and homelessness.

If we were to try to look for solutions entirely within the framework of recognized cause and effect for these problems, we might quickly come to the gloomy conclusion that the need is too great and there is simply not enough good to go round. Inevitably, therefore, some people are going to be left out. But Christian Science causes us to look at the situation from an entirely different standpoint—as a new opportunity to learn more of the goodness and substance that have their source in God.

The Bible furnishes insights on this important subject. For instance, we read in the book of Proverbs that the merchandise of wisdom and understanding is far better than that of silver and gold. If God is the source of all wisdom, then we can turn to Him for a deeper understanding of His spiritual attributes. He has in fact already endowed man, His image, with integrity, judgment, and intelligence—and these qualities are a practical source of supply.
