Opening the door to Christ

From the March 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is tremendous joy in an instantaneous healing. It makes us more aware of God's power to heal. But sometimes a quick healing can seem almost magically miraculous rather than the proof of a divine Principle that we can understand and bring to bear consistently on human problems.

Of course none of us wishes for tough problems, but we can be assured that even when we are not quickly healed, our consistent efforts will lead us to a deeper understanding of the scientific healing method presented in Christian Science. This opens the door to Christ, to the spiritual idea of being that Christ Jesus demonstrated so fully.

Science shows us that the human mind can be like a swinging door. If it opens toward the sinful and mortal side of human experience, it closes itself off from the healthful and immortal laws of God. Christian Science comes to the darkened mortal consciousness and teaches it how to open the door to the right side. In proportion as one's thinking opens to Christ, Truth, it closes to sin and disease. As we read in Psalms, "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in."  Ps. 24:7. Here is an example of how this works.
