CHURCH NEWS

From the November 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A year ago, our branch church membership embarked on a journey Spiritward, a journey of healing whose aim was to specifically correct current misconceptions and misunderstandings about Christian Science. Our subject was "Christian Science practice: the essence of church membership." Our Leader tells us (Church Manual, Art. XXX, Sect. 7): "Healing the sick and the sinner with Truth demonstrates what we affirm of Christian Science, and nothing can substitute this demonstration. I recommend that each member of this Church shall strive to demonstrate by his or her practice, that Christian Science heals the sick quickly and wholly, thus proving this Science to be all that we claim for it."

It seemed timely that we, as Christian Science healers, rededicate ourselves and implement our healing talents in support of the Christian Science movement. Each member was assigned a question about a topic uppermost in the minds of the public regarding Christian Science healing. These questions were derived in part from news reports during court cases involving families who rely on Christian Science for healing. The inspiration from each individual's study was then shared at several metaphysical meetings held throughout the year. The questions were challenging and thought-provoking, and the search diligent and rewarding.

This activity inspired each of us to reflect on our rightful place in society and the place of Christian Science in "the city of our God."
