Still need healing? Don't stop praying

From the November 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever prayed about a physical trouble and then found yourself checking out some part of the human anatomy to see if it's behaving as it should? Now, be honest. I know I have. And I've discovered it doesn't do a thing to further my healing!

Examining the body to see if there's been a change will not bring healing! Mrs. Eddy shows us a better way: "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Science and Health, p. 261.

Many years ago I learned this lesson quite vividly. I had a lot of things going on at that time. And I must admit, it was all a bit staggering. I was preparing to start lecturing in two months, and there was a lot of lecture preparation left to do. My father, who lived a thousand miles away, was about to retire, and I had committed myself to do a number of things for him. I was involved in a time-consuming but very worthwhile church project. I had a graduation talk to give in a couple of weeks. And I still had to keep allotting plenty of time to earning a living.
