We all would like a dependable income, steady job, future financial security. But material resources have a way of being suddenly disrupted. They are "treasures upon earth," as Jesus put it, "where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal." But there are also "treasures in heaven," Matt. 6:19, 20. which are not subject to decay and theft, Jesus tells us.
What are these treasures, and what is the truly dependable source of income? Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says, "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 307. Spiritual ideas are the dependable income from God, the source of all good, which never varies or dries up. This divine source is what Jesus depended on, and it never let him down.
But what if we don't know how to recognize these ideas? What if we have been educated to trust only our own intellect or skills or material wealth, and not taught to trust Spirit, the genuine originator of all that we are or can really have? What if we have no interest in seeking the things of Spirit, no patience or persistence in learning to rely on our creator, to trust Him above all else? Then it would certainly be more difficult to be able to draw on His ideas in times of need, wouldn't it?
