From the November 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science periodicals have been helping and healing readers for generations. As this author found when she discovered an issue of the Journal that was published in 1917, spiritual ideas have a timeless relevance that inspires the thought and moves the heart.

It is an art to be a great giver as well as a great receiver. But it took a rainy day and a mental journey back to the year 1917 for me to understand the deeper, more spiritual meanings behind giving and receiving.

It was one of those times when you knew the rain would go on all day. I had used the occasion to pray and to study the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. I had some old copies of Christian Science literature stored away in a cabinet, and as I rummaged through it, one particular item caught my attention — mainly because it was so old and so worn that the binding was coming off. As I gently picked it up, I noticed the browning, fragile pages. It was a copy of The Christian Science Journal from 1917.
