To our readers . . .

From the Publishing Director

From the November 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This month, Thanksgiving Day is celebrated as a national holiday in the United States. It is worth noting that Mary Baker Eddy established a specific Bible Lesson and church service on the subject "Thanksgiving." It is the only such holiday observance she established for her Church and for us as Christian Scientists. It indicates that Thanksgiving can be cherished, not only as an American tradition, but as a natural Christian expression of gratitude.

We are happy to announce that the Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, in accordance with the Deed of Trust, has approved the publication of the 1993 Thanksgiving Lesson as a stand-alone full-text booklet. This special edition has been designed with the reader in mind and includes several "study notes" pages, a note to the student, the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the Tenets of Christian Science, information on the writings of Mrs. Eddy, and a subscription page.

Booklets are available from Reading Rooms for the special price of $1 so that they can be shared generously. You might consider giving them to friends or neighbors as an invitation to your local Thanksgiving Day service. Branch churches might consider giving them to individuals who attend their services. Other places for sharing could include homeless shelters, hospitals, waiting rooms, and centers for the elderly. We know you'll be listening for your own individual opportunities for sharing.
