Taking the higher ground in demonstration

From the December 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Whether we're newly interested in Christian Science or an "old hand," we're likely to be aiming to demonstrate its teachings more effectively. We can do it by moving to higher ground.

Our demonstration rises as we rise in understanding and spirituality. Mrs. Eddy writes, "The way is absolute divine Science: walk ye in it; but remember that Science is demonstrated by degrees, and our demonstration rises only as we rise in the scale of being."  Miscellaneous Writings, p. 359.

What is demonstration? The term derives from a Latin word meaning "to show." Demonstration implies a showing of something. Since, in divine Science, God and His idea is all there actually is, demonstration is essentially a showing of God, or good. It's the appearing of real being. It's a disclosing, or an uncovering, to human sense of what is true and divine. On the other hand, sin, illness, and mortality express the belief that the carnal mind can demonstrate, or show forth, itself. Each spiritual healing refutes this claim.
