"... a church home"

From the December 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One hundred years ago last month, the roof construction on the Original Edifice of The Mother Church in Boston was completed. Yvonne Fettweis, Manager of the Church History department of The Mother Church, shares with Journal readers some of the spiritual import of that special event.

In 1911, when a desk was being cleaned out in Mary Baker Eddy's former home in Boston, at 385 Commonwealth Avenue, a tiny news clipping fluttered to the floor. It dated from the winter of 1889:

'A church lot, beautifully situated near Huntington avenue and the new park, valued at about $15,000, has been given by Rev. Mary B. G. Eddy, through Ira O. Knapp, of 283 Columbus Avenue, to the Christian Scientists, upon which to build a church, so that not only those who are in Boston, but those who may visit the city, can have a church home."
