One who has experienced healing through prayer as taught in Christian Science has had an opportunity to see what a priceless gift God has bestowed. It is freely given, as Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated. Yet one's continued progress in spiritual discovery not only reveals increasing views of the great power for good God provides; it also shows us what Isaiah meant when he said, "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat."
Isa. 55:1 .
Spiritual healing is bought with a price. This cannot be measured in terms of money, but in terms of individual effort to understand and obey the demands of God, to yield to Truth and its power. The Bible sets the standard. It says, 'And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?"
Deut. 10:12, 13 .
To put genuine reverence and love for God first in our daily lives, to let every thought and action be governed by Him, to worship by obeying His laws —such commitment obliges us to go a step beyond promise to the growing understanding and demonstration of man's relation to God. Jesus made it clear that he could do nothing of himself, but he understood man's unity with God, whose power is an ever-flowing fountain of healing. Jesus prayed that not only his immediate followers but those of all time would understand their sonship with God and live it in the way he demonstrated so faithfully.
