Our pastor in history and prophecy

From the December 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The first tenet of Christian Science states, 'As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 497 . It isn't just words, but the Word, capital W that the tenet states is our guide to eternal Life. The divine Word that "was in the beginning with God"
John 1:2 .—long before the Bible ever existed.

As the Logos, the Word is God's creative power. A Bible scholar defines the Word as "God's self-revealing activity within God himself before the world was, distinguished but not separated from God" (see The Abingdon Bible Commentary, p. 1067).

"God's self-revealing activity" —what an expression! "God's self-revealing activity" appears wherever there's a special receptivity in human consciousness to let that divine light shine through—rather like the sun having to burst through the moment there's the slightest break in the clouds.
