The Christmas message— its healing influence

From the December 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For centuries Christmas has been an occasion when individuals often make a special effort to express more selflessness and kindness, more holiness and reverence, than usual.

Why does this season so deeply touch the good in so many? Why do people endeavor to hold better thoughts and do better things at this time of year than during the rest of the year? The answer may be found in the reason that Christ Jesus came in the first place and what his birth signaled to the world. Several passages in the New Testament of the Bible explain his mission clearly:

• "God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:17.
