Church support and healing

From the December 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A student of Christian Science knows that healings through prayer may sometimes come with surprising ease. Biblical truths, clarified through study of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, begin to take on fresh meaning and relevance. Old cobwebs of doubt, ignorance, and fear are cleared away, and an awakened sense of God's nearness and love envelops us. As we glimpse the practical applications of Christianity, life unexpectedly begins to change. Healings occur.

But sometimes healings seem harder to come by. At these times a continued purification of motives, greater selflessness, and a stronger desire to love and serve mankind are called for.

In my own experience, I have found that my progress in healing has coincided with my progress in church participation. The desire to be of wider service, to express gratitude for blessings received, and the humility required to learn from others traveling the same path —all bring spiritual rewards. Church activity is a vehicle that nurtures purity, unselfishness, and love of mankind, promoting spiritual growth and healing.
