Finally we were going to get away on a vacation! Most of the family members were going with us, but one teenager had to stay behind because of job obligations.
We would be making responsible arrangements for being in touch with our son while we were away. Nevertheless, as the day for our departure drew close, a sense of fear began to hover over me. This son had had occasional problems with alcohol abuse and resultant lapses from intelligent, responsible behavior.
Our family had labored under this cloud for quite some time. We had lovingly worked with this son and done our best to encourage him and bring Christian healing to the situation, but the progress seemed sporadic and slow.
