Science and Health: Heart to heart

From the December 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During this holiday season, a time of significance for Jews and Christians alike, the following accounts show how Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy can unite hearts and bring down assumed religious barriers. A woman in Pennsylvania writes:

"I have a dear friend who is Jewish and married to a doctor. The opportunity arose to share Science and Health with this friend, and she was very grateful.

"Several months later, a decision was made that my friend could take one of her daughters out of Jewish Sunday School [the religious training that children of Reform and Conservative Jews receive prior to their bar mitzvahs or bat mitzvahs], under the condition that my friend would continue classes with her daughter at home. Knowing that I had taught in the Christian Science Sunday School, my friend asked me for guidance. I directed her again to Science and Health, pointing out that it was a textbook, and a perfect guide for learning of God. "My friend and her daughter are in the process of reading and discussing Science and Health from cover to cover. The daughter very much likes what she is learning. Her sense of Jewish Sunday School is no longer confined to a once-a-week activity, but has turned into daily discussions about God, prayer, and healing. They have begun to use the entire Bible, and my friend is studying the Lesson-Sermon [outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly] . Both my friend and her daughter have experienced healings, and are enjoying sharing with the rest of the family what they are learning."
