Our family has been immeasurably blessed by Christian Science. It has been our source of guidance, strength, and healing. A few years ago our older daughter appeared to break her toe. We turned to God in prayer, and talked together of His love and constant care for us all.
She asked to have the toe examined by a doctor and to have it set if it was broken. As we drove to the local clinic, we prayed the Lord's Prayer, taking each verse and relating its truth to the need at hand. We were asked to sign in and wait our turn to see the doctor on duty. As we sat there the words of Mary Baker Eddy's poem "The Mother's Evening Prayer" came to me. I don't recall if I repeated them quietly to our daughter or just to myself silently After a few minutes, she said, "Mommy, I don't think we should be here." I assured her that all was well, and that if this was what she wanted to do we would follow through with the examination. But she said she had changed her mind and wanted to go home.
I removed our name from the sign-in sheet and we drove back home. We continued to pray for healing. The toe, which had been crooked, repositioned itself naturally, and her activities were in no way curtailed. Some weeks later she could not even recall which foot had been injured. Since that experience this daughter has had two different hand injuries that have also been completely healed through Christian Science alone.
