The nature of man

From the August 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you seeking healing? Healing is often described as "being made whole." One of the most comprehensive healing concepts in Christian Science is man's nature as a whole, indivisible expression of God.

Mary Baker Eddy, who presents the divine Science of healing in her discovery of Christian Science, makes a statement that is basic to a consistently effective understanding of the true nature of man. She writes, "Is not a man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God?" Pulpit and Press, p. 4.

Consider that God is the divine Principle of being, Life itself. Because God is the only creator and is infinite, in an individual way His reflection necessarily manifests, qualitatively, the totality of His being as a full unit or representative of Him. A unit implies intactness, entirety, an indivisible whole. As the likeness of his source, each child of God, in a distinct, individual fashion, manifests the wholeness of God, who is All and knows all.
