My interest in Christian Science was at first on an intellectual basis. I expected to find some answers to questions from my Biblical studies, as well as explanations of Bible stories in general. At the same time, the main ideas of Christian Science, and spiritual healing itself, remained largely enigmatic to me.
But, to my surprise, I very soon found myself studying Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures regularly. Soon I realized that the light of revelation was shining on me, giving sense to my existence and strength to deal with daily problems. Thinking about "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (see p. 468), I started to see all that surrounded me in a different light. What seemed to be unhappy or unlucky circumstances became insubstantial to me—just error, which presents itself as real.
I realized that, since "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal," as the statement says, life can't be mean or unhappy. We are children of God, and our lives can't be wasted. This revelation changed my attitude to life completely. I am now sure that there's no place for unhappiness in God's realm. This surety is a source of unlimited good for me, as it is for all God's creation.
