Just God—one cause

From the October 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was teaching a class of five-year-old girls in Sunday School, and one of them, a stranger to the group, began to cry. Suddenly another left her seat and went to her, whispering something in her ear. The crying stopped and all was well. Later I asked what the little benefactress had whispered. "Love is All," she replied. One earnest thought of God had brought healing.

Recently one morning when I woke, two words came forcibly to me: "Just God." Just God. God alone; there is no other cause but God. Period. It was an immensely comforting thought that God, Love, was, is, and always will be All. Some of the Bible writers spoke of this. In Isaiah we read, "For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; ... I am the Lord; and there is none else." Isa. 45:18.

Can we envisage a universe where Love is indeed All—everywhere, all-powerful, infinite, expressing itself in man as its likeness? A universe where we see, hear, feel nothing but Love and its manifestation? Wasn't this the heavenly reality to which Christ Jesus bore witness? He continuously reflected God's thoughts wherever he went. He saw perfection, health, holiness, as the effect of divine, ever-present Love and so always at hand, always perceptible as the reality. Christian Science reiterates that we can behold this God-made creation—this spiritual universe created by Love— and experience healing results.
