The practice

(one student's self-examination)

From the October 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Will you go? Will you do it?
Be in the world yet separate from it? Be seen washing feet?
Your wellspring—Christian Science—is pure and deep;
The way, pointed out by Christ — complete.
"Enter into thy closet ... spiritualize thought,
"Pray without ceasing"—listening, listening.

No wondering, wandering, nor settling in step
(resting on laurels is self-righteousness).
Let Spirit direct, and letter reflect, the following of
Vision uninterrupted—affirming, affirming.
Resistance seems thick, entangled with subtleties,
But you have the Word of God. Go to it!
No putting up with, bowing down to, distractions, delays.
Just do it!

Be "the salt of the earth," "the light of the world,"
And behold what freedom—proving, proving
Freedom from a mortal self, which is for naught ...
Freedom to see, hear, feel, oneness with Father-Mother God
(Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Mind),
Witnessing, witnessing wholeness, purity, harmony—
All reality divine.
