A practitioner once said that Christian Science is a realist's proving ground. Hopefully in a small way I'm proving this today.
Like most Christian Scientists, I had had many healings —of toothaches, sprained ankles, relationship problems, the smoking habit, needing glasses, and insufficient income. But one healing I hadn't yet had was of mental illness. I was diagnosed with this in the military, and later on had attempted suicide.
It had been a couple of years after that that I had found Christian Science. The healings I had subsequently were of course wonderful, but I was still mentally troubled, and finally, after a disagreement, I became depressed, left Christian Science, and went to a veterans hospital where I was declared 100 percent disabled.
