Inspiration and healing—at midweek testimony meetings

From the February 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"This meeting is now open to you..." When this announcement is read at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Christian Science church, one may think, "Now is my opportunity to express gratitude." But sometimes clouds of resistance roll in and attempt to obscure our desire to share: "What if I can't speak well enough? I have no current healing to relate. Perhaps my testimony will be too short." Yet those clouds can be blown away by the gentle power of Truth.

The first fear, that of inadequacy in expressing oneself, is expunged as we realize that we have, as God's expression, the ability to express ourselves well. What God spoke to Moses is encouraging: "Who hath made man's mouth?...Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say" Ex. 4:11, 12.

Also inspiring is this loving affirmation from our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy: "When the heart speaks, however simple the words, its language is always acceptable to those who have hearts." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 262.
