Finding the truth that heals

From the February 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Those seeking healing through Christian Science are striving to understand more fully that all being is spiritual. For this reason they don't analyze problems or illnesses from a material basis. Nor do they delve into the past, searching for the cause of illness, obstacles, or anxiety.

Getting sidetracked by trying to analyze a problem doesn't promote spiritual healing. In fact, focusing on a difficulty—be it related to health, finances, or human relations—is likely to make a person feel more helpless. It's far more productive and freeing to turn away from the problem and toward God as "our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Ps. 46:1.

Coming to understand that God, divine Truth, is the one real cause involves rejecting the belief that there are material laws and that they can shape experience. Since God is good, He never wills man to suffer; so disease has no legitimate cause. God is constantly pouring out the riches of His love to man. This love is expressed in health and harmony. So-called material laws of health have no power to overthrow or undercut God's permanent law of perfection by which He governs His spiritual creation.
