The story is told of a boy who telephoned his Sunday School teacher, asking her to pray for his dog, which had been badly wounded in a fight with another dog. He explained to her (and with great pride) that his dog usually won all of his fights, but this time the other dog got the best of him and he was afraid his dog would die.
The teacher agreed to pray for the dog, but reminded the boy of the spiritual nature of the animal as an idea of God, divine Mind, and said that it wasn't natural for the dog to want to fight and be destructive. After listening to her for a moment, the boy said, "Well, I want you to heal him, but I don't want you to take the fight out of him!"
Doesn't this illustrate the nature of the carnal mind, which would have us hold on to false and sinful ways of living while at the same time praying to heal the ills that such thinking has brought on?
