For five generations, my family has been blessed by the healing power of God through our understanding of Christian Science. A recent experience of our youngest child reinforced our confidence in the power of God to protect and heal.
We live across the street from the school our eight-year-old attends, and because of the heavy traffic we have very strict guidelines to ensure her safety when she is crossing the street. One day, however, in her haste to get home, she disregarded those guidelines and was hit by a car. A friend who saw the incident called me right away. I work at the school, and I left immediately to assist my daughter. Meanwhile, my niece, who was on the scene, was contacting a Christian Science practitioner to ask her to treat my daughter. As I approached the house, it was clear that the situation was considered serious by the local authorities. There were numerous emergency vehicles present. I had to reject immediately the suggestion that my child had been seriously injured.
As I approached the ambulance, neighbors identified me to the paramedics as the child's father, and I was ushered inside the vehicle to see my daughter. I had often been advised to "let the Christ go in first." I endeavored to do this, and to see my child as the perfect idea of God, as she has always been, and to know that nothing could change that truth about her being.
