My frank answer is, "Pray!" The provision for the Christian Science nurse, found in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, requires the ability to pray right up front. It describes the need for "a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice" in order to be a nurse. What does this mean? In part, it may mean that you naturally turn to and depend upon God for every answer. It certainly also means that love for God and man motivates your desire to nurse.
You might say, "OK, I get that part, but I want to know exactly what I have to do to become a Christian Science nurse." Here again, the answer really is to pray! Prayer is not suggested simply as an alternative to another way of intelligently answering this question. Prayer is wholly practical, providing definitive answers. That is how powerful prayer is and how individual the message.
Your prayer may have begun with a yearning to be an active participant in Christianity's mission to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." Matt. 10:8 Another step in praying might include letting go of any preconceived plan—acknowledging that you are the willing child of your Father-Mother God, ready to follow His divine direction, and understanding that He is the only Mind, the only governing intelligence. As individuals prepare to enter the practice of Christian Science nursing, they can lean on divine Love to melt all opposition, guide their path of preparation, abundantly meet all needs, and teach them how to love more purely, give more selflessly, understand more spiritually.
