Thanksgiving Day is an occasion with great meaning in the United States and Canada. Yet giving thanks to God is a privilege open to all, year-round. It's actually indispensable, a practice that relates directly to healing and progress. Contributing editor
shares some insights on the subject.I Used To Think that gratitude and thanks were the same thing. But there's a distinction. Gratitude is a feeling. Thanks is an expression of that feeling.
Choosing to express gratitude in active thanksgiving makes a big difference. While it's always good to feel appreciation for people, would we want simply to sit in a corner with grateful thoughts, but never let them know? If, however, we get up and express that gratitude—say, bake them a pie—then they know in a more certain way that we're grateful. Our giving is evident. Everyone is blessed. (assuming the pie turns out OK). And thanks not only goes out from us; it likely comes back our way as well.
