It's a rule: "Let your light shine!"

From the November 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One Thing Is Certain. Christian Science practitioner and teacher Georgia Newton will not be alone this Thanksgiving. Lots of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will see to that! And the woman most of them call "Other Mommy" will not be dispensing "motherly advice" over the dinner table. She will be too busy following a rule she holds sacred: Let your light shine!

"You don't make your light shine," she explained as we chatted together, "you let it!"

Mrs. Newton has been letting her light shine since, in the early years of her marriage, a longtime friend of hers gave her some Christian Science magazines to read. Times were tough, but not as tough as they had been during a desperately unhappy childhood fraught with family conflict, as well as racial prejudice in their community.
