"Marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.... How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!" (Ps. 139:14, 17)
One Sunday morning after attending church, I was driving home on a one-way street when a car ran a red light and hit my car on the right front, causing my car to collide with the car on my left. As the first impact occurred, I turned wholeheartedly to God, saying three times out loud, "God, help me!" Although I was wearing a seat belt and shoulder harness, the impact jolted me severely.
Almost immediately paramedics arrived at the scene. They apparently took one look at me and declared that I must be immediately transported to the city's trauma center, even though I quickly requested that I be taken to the local Christian Science care facility. After assuring themselves that I was alert, the paramedics pried open the door, lifted me out of the car, placed me on a stretcher, and drove me in the ambulance to the trauma center. I realized later that I had not had an opportunity to try to get out of the car or to stand, as the response by the paramedics had been so immediate.
