Last October, we printed a selection of comments about Science and Health from various ministers. These expressions of inspiration and insight continue to come from clergy of many denominations. We thought Journal readers would enjoy hearing more about how the ideas in Science and Health with ... Key to the Scriptures are increasingly speaking to the heart of the ministry.
•At the Central Maryland Ecumenical Council's "Women in Churches" conference, a minister from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was asked to give a blessing before lunch. Earlier in the day he had stopped by the Christian Science Reading Room booth there and had picked up a copy of Science and Health. When he stood up with a woman from his church to give the blessing, he held it up, announced it was by Mary Baker Eddy, that it cost eighteen dollars, and said, "I thought it would be appropriate to read a passage from this book for the blessing." He and the woman then alternately read the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation from the chapter "Prayer." Later, when thanked for the blessing, he said that he had had another grace prepared, but the "Holy Spirit guided me to that."
•A rabbi came to a similar booth at "The Whole Life Expo" in Chicago and began looking at the display with great interest. The woman who was setting up the booth asked him if he was familiar with Science and Health. "Not really," he replied. When she told him about some of the ideas in the book, he wanted to know what Mary Baker Eddy wrote about Christ. They turned to the definition of Christ in the Glossary of Science and Health. He was immediately taken with it and purchased a copy of the book.
