Christian Healing, illustrated in the ministry of Christ Jesus and practiced in Christian Science, might be described as participation in perfection—spiritual perfection.
When people came to Jesus for healing, it was not unusual for him to require something of them. For example, to a blind man he said, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam." John 9:7. To another, who had been ill for thirty-eight years, he said, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." John 5:8. And to a man with a withered hand he said, "Stretch forth thine hand." Matt. 12:13. There is no indication in these Bible accounts that any of the individuals gave reasons why they couldn't do what was asked of them. Rather, they opened thought to the possibility of healing and did what was requested of them. We could say that they participated in their healings.
We, too, can participate in healing through prayer. Prayer turns thought from human limitations to the recognition of infinite possibilities. We're praying when thought rests in God, yields to His presence. The Bible states, "Thou [God]wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isa. 26:3.
