Poems

Firstborn

From the April 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every child is actually the firstborn of God
The apple of His eye.
God has no favorites
All are highly prized and well supplied.

Every child is the legitimate idea of God
Life's exact reflection, His very image.
Embraced in Truth, encircled by Love,
Bonded forever to its Father-Mother.

Every child is the direct heir of God
Conceived in the purity of Soul.
Baptized in the riches of immortality
Complete, intact, whole.

Every child is held in perfect position
To receive gifts, rights, honors.
There is no oldest, middle, or youngest child.
Each held dear, with no elbowing competition.

Every child is seen and known.
There are no forgotten, cast off ones
Hidden from view, obscure, remote
For Mind, God, is everywhere watching over His own.

Every child throughout eternity
Is nestled in God's family
Wrapped in the oneness of Being
Rocked by the sweet melody—

"This is My beloved, My firstborn."
