In 1902 the members of The Mother Church voted to raise two million dollars to build an extension to the Original Edifice. Informing Mary Baker Eddy of this decision, they wrote, "To you, who ... are standing in the forefront of the effort for righteous reform, we modestly renew the hope and desire that we may worthily follow with you in the way of salvation through Christ."
In response, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science wrote in part: "I am bankrupt in thanks to you, my beloved brethren .... I never before felt poor in thanks, but I do now, and will draw on God for the amount I owe you, till I am satisfied with what my heart gives to balance accounts." Nearly a century later The Mother Church Extension is undergoing its most major renovation. How timely for us to renew our own "hope and desire" to follow Mrs. Eddy in the reinstatement of primitive Christianity.
