It is natural for every reader of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to respond in Christian love to the needs of others. The book's message awakens and enriches this active love for God and His children. There is, however, no provision in Christian Science for ordination to its ministry. Mary Baker Eddy expected every Christian Scientist to actively practice its teachings for the benefit of all. In the Church Manual she writes, "I recommend that each member of this Church shall strive to demonstrate by his or her practice, that Christian Science heals the sick quickly and wholly, thus proving this Science to be all that we claim for it" (Art. XXX, Sect. 7).
Those who have decided to dedicate themselves full time to the healing ministry of Christian Science usually advertise in The Christian Science Journal as practitioners. Their commitment to healing is really the result of their deepening love for God and man. Success in this practice is not determined by how long a person has lived or by how many experiences or academic degrees he or she has accumulated. Instead, a successful practice is measured solely on the basis of effective Christian Science healing. As a result, dedicated practitioners come from all age groups and all walks of life.
