Most Of Us have had landmark experiences at some point in our lives. Perhaps they involved working through a career change, or finding satisfying companionship, or developing greater moral stability. For me, landmark experiences have always been related to spiritual development, which has blessed me physically, morally, and spiritually.
Christ Jesus' disciples had a pivotal experience following Jesus' crucifixion. Having apparently lost the inspiration gained in the brief years of being with their Master, they spend an entire night fishing and caught nothing. In the early morning hours, though, Jesus spoke to them from the shore and said, "Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." John 21:6. This was much more than a mere human action that Jesus was calling for. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy describes the deep transformation that took place: "Convinced of the fruitlessness of their toil in the dark and wakened by their Master's voice, they changed their methods, turned away from material things, and cast their net on the right side. Discerning Christ, Truth, anew on the shore of time, they were enabled to rise somewhat from mortal sensuousness, or the burial of mind in matter, into newness of life as Spirit." Science and Health, p. 35. Their renewed glimpse of the Christ filled their "nets," their thoughts and lives, with greater peace and purity, enabling them to humbly carry on the mission that Christ Jesus had established for them.
We learned to drink in more of the spirit of Truth and Love.
