The coincidence of Thanksgiving Day and National Bible Week in the United States seems particularly fitting. Many people are thankful for the Bible and what it brings to their lives. Researcher George Gallup, Jr., has found that there's a particular interest today in small-group discussions of the Bible. And participants in these groups feel they've benefited from this group study. They report that they are more honest with themselves, better able to forgive others, more understanding of different religious perspectives, and closer to God as a result of their participation.
Perhaps Journal readers are a kind of Bible discussion group, too. After all, one of the special features of this magazine is that our readers are our writers. Robin Hoagland's cover article, "A practical resource to meet today's needs—the Bible," starts our discussion this month. And this issue also includes a continuing celebration of the 125th year of publishing Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. That's a natural linkup, since so many readers say Science and Health has made the Bible more meaningful than ever to them.
