The Internet: giving global access to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

From the November 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

SUDDENLY THERE'S THE Internet—that global computer network we've been hearing so much about. It took us all by surprise. It's actually been around for about forty years, but thanks to great improvements technology that make it so much easier to use, ordinary people now have access to the Internet—and to all that is connected to it. And that's just about everything!

"Everything" now includes Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures —the book that is the foundation of this magazine and of the organization Mrs. Eddy founded. I'm privileged to be part of the Web project from The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and I'd like to share some ideas with you.

Currently, there are over 304 million people using the Internet worldwide. New users are joining up at the rate of 7 every second! Studies have also shown that 25 percent of Internet users are specifically using the Internet to pursue some form of spirituality. That's around 76 million people. To serve them, there are 3.5 million Web sites that include spiritual or religious themes or resources.
